Message in a bottle over a century old!

Message-in-bottle
This bottle, discovered on a German, may contain the world record for a recovered message.

April 17th, retired postal worker, Marianne Winkler, was walking along the shore of the German island of Amrum on the North Sea coast when she found something very curious on the beach. It was a well-sealed bottle with a message inside. The Winklers tried to get the bottle opened, but were finally forced to follow the directions to extract the paper: BREAK THE BOTTLE.

It turned out to be a post-paid postcard from The Marine Biological Assocation of the UK with instructions to send the postcard back for a 1-shilling reward.

It’s likely that the price of postage has gone up since this bottle was dropped into the water sometime between 1904 and 1906. It was one of nearly 1,000 bottles released as part of an study on currents.

“We were very excited,” Guy Baker, a spokesman for the group, told AP, London. “We certainly weren’t expecting to receive any more of the postcards.”

To reward the Winklers for their find, the Association sent them a shilling from the period which they found on E-Bay.

Information about this find is currently being reviewed by Guinness for a possible world record.

FASTEST HUMAN ON EARTH (VIDEO)

Playing Flight of the Bumblebee at 15 notes per second, Violinst Ben Lee has gained the title of World's Fastest Human!

This is seriously mind-blowing! This guy can shred a violin like no other and has gained the title of World’s Fastest Human due to his faster than lightning fingers! He wasn’t the only one competing for the title though, a base racer (imagine base jumping except with racing someone to the bottom), a speed eater and, a head spinning break-dancer. Watch the video below of this dude playing insanely fast to win the title!

The Telegraph writes:

Judges and scientists working on the Quest channel’s show, Superhuman Showdown, unanimously voted the 32-year-old musician the fastest superhuman on earth, after he beat off stiff competition from a speed shooter and a base jumper.

Ben and his fellow competitors were tested in a controlled environment and researchers used magnetic electrical pulses to measure the contestants’ brain activity during their tasks.

Among those vying for the title were the world base race champion Frode Johannessen, who can ‘fly’ unassisted at 170pm and speed shooter Jerry Miculek who can fire eight rounds on four targets in 1.06 seconds.

Head spinner Aicho Ono, who can perform 135 head spins in one minute, and speed eater Pete Czerwinski, who is able to eat a 12 inch pizza in 34 seconds, also tried their best to win the coveted title.

Ben was thrilled to have been declared the winner: “It’s taken tens of thousands of hours of practice to reach this speed but it definitely helped that my parents were musical and encouraged me to play.”

He has played the violin since the age of five, and at 16 he was awarded Daily Telegraph Young Jazz Composer Of The Year. He has now insured his fingers for £3 million.

His record for playing Flight of the Bumblebee note perfect on the electric violin is 58.05 seconds.

ANOTHER WORLD’S TALLEST: MEET ZEUS THE GREAT DANE

Zeus, a 3-year old Great Dane from Michigan is now the world's tallest dog!

On the heels of yesterday ‘World’s Tallest Mohawk’ Post, I proudly present to you another ‘World’s Tallest’, Zeus is officially the world’s tallest dog!

Yahoo News writes:

A Great Dane called Zeus who towers 2.2 metres (7 feet 4 inches) on his hind legs is named the tallest dog ever recorded in the latest Guinness Book of World Records launched on Thursday.

The giant canine from Michigan in the United States eats an entire 14-kilogram (30-pound) bag of food every day and weighs in at 70.3 kilograms, the 57th edition of the global records book says.

Measuring 1.12 metres (44 inches) from paw to withers — the point between the shoulder blades at which the official height of a four-legged mammal is judged — he is officially the tallest dog ever recorded, the volume claims.

‘Guinness World Records 2013’ says the humongous hound breaks the record of Giant George, another Great Dane who is one inch shorter.

“The most common thing people ask is: ‘Is that a dog or a horse?'” says the three-year-old’s owner Denise.

“We had to get a van to be able to transport him, oh, and if he steps on your foot he leaves bruises!”

The book — the latest edition of the world’s best-selling copyrighted series — also names Oklahoma Sam, a four-year-old American Mammoth Jackstock, as the tallest living donkey on the planet.

Measuring 1.55 metres (5 feet 1 inch) from hoof to withers, she dwarfs the average common donkey (80 centimetres, 2 feet 8 inches) and the average for her own larger breed (1.22 metres, 4 feet).

The four-year-old record-breaker lives in Watsonville, California, where she shares her one acre of land with a macaw, duck, goose and four cats.

ARCHER SETS WORLD RECORD…WITHOUT ARMS!

"Using a release aid, he hooks the string to his shoulder before taking aim and letting go."

There’s no better example of “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” than Matt Stutzman. You would think that being born with out either arm would make things a bit more difficult when wanting to participate in some activities, especially ones that usually require two arms. We now say “usually” because of Matt. Not only does he participate, he breaks world records!

Matt Stutzman takes aim.

MSNBC writes:

If you’ve ever wondered what determination looks like, take a good long stare at Matt Stutzman.

You wouldn’t be the first.

Stutzman was born without arms, but he compensates with creativity and the will to succeed.

“Even at a young age, I remember always trying to do stuff and I’d ask for help with my parents and my parents would always tell me, in a nice way, ‘Try to figure it out first before we help you,'” he says.

He turned his determination into success on the archery range.

Two years ago we figured out his unique release system.

Stutzman adjusts the bow with this toes, holds it with his right foot, and brings up the arrow with his left.

“My feet are my hands, so I just and hold it the same way they would with their hands,” he explains.

This man is incredible and should be an inspiration for anytime you feel you’re not good enough to even try something you really want to do. Even though the world believed Matt Stutzman lacked the proper tools for his trade, he put his will and creativity into action, accomplished exactly what he set out to do and left the entire world changed because of it.

WORLD RECORD FOR MOST FINGERS AND TOES!

As much as we see and hear of weirds things from the past, here’s something from right now.

Huffingtonpost.com writes:

Count’em up. This young man born with 34 fingers and toes set a Guinness World Record for most digits.

Akshat Saxena had seven fingers on each hand and 10 toes on each foot when he was born in India in 2010, a Guinness spokeswoman told The Huffington Post.

“I was so happy to see my baby as it was our first child,” his mother Amrita Saxena told NDTV. “But later, when I saw his fingers, I was shocked and surprised.”

Doctors recently amputated the excess appendages in a series of surgeries and now Saxena has the typical five digits per limb, the Guinness spokeswoman said.

This prodigious polydactyl wasn’t born with thumbs, but doctors planned to create them with pieces of the extra figners, The Hindustan Times reported.
