COLLECTION OF CREEPY PHOTOS

article-2188507-148BF30E000005DC-944_634x868

The fine folks over at Daily Mail Online have collected a fantastic set of extraordinarily creepy photos from cemeteries, abandoned houses, in the woods, and even a few normal photos that were taken during the daytime, all with an unexpected guest!

The Daily mail writes:

These are the things that go bump in the night.

From murdered slaves to tortured hospital patients to forgotten sailors, ghost stories will send a shiver down most people’s spines.

But this collection of images will call into question everything you think you know about the spirit world… and how easy it may be to cross back over from the ‘other side’.

Paranormal investigators have spent decades painstakingly researching each photograph, debunking some and failing to disprove others.

Take the tale of the white lady of the Philippines.

Locals of Quezon City steer clear of Balete Drive at night as they say that a woman in white with long black tresses, face covered in blood, stands in the centre of the road, staring at oncoming vehicles.

Drivers try to avoid the street at all costs – but if they must pass, they pack their backseat with passengers because if there is one empty seat, an uninvited guest just might take it. In photographs,  she appears as a bright, white light in the road, legs barely visible.

Or consider the story of Chloe the inquisitive slave.

Chloe lived at the house of Myrtle’s Plantation in St Francisville, Louisiana. She would often listen in on conversations she wasn’t supposed to, snooping in on her master’s private talks.

One afternoon, Chloe was caught. According to legend, her master cut off her ear as punishment.

For revenge, Chloe baked a cake out of oleander leaves, which are poisonous. She wanted her cruel master to taste it, but his wife and daughters beat him to it.

She fled the house, but was lynched by her fellow slaves. She still haunts the plantation to this day, listening in on the conversations of its visitors. Chloe can sometimes be seen hiding behind the doors, columns, or bushes on the residence.

But not all ghosts have been scorned.

An Australian woman named Mrs Andrews was visiting the grave of her daughter in a cemetery in Queensland, in the 1940s when she took a photo.  Her daughter Joyce had died the year before at the age of 17. She was shocked to find a child in the photo that she did not recognise sitting on top of the grave.

Australian paranormal researcher Tony Healy visited the cemetery in the late 1990s to find out what had happened. He found that near Joyce’s grave, two infant girls were buried.

YOUNG BOY HAUNTED BY GREY-SKINNED MAN

Dagan Gerrity who is only 5 years old, is troubled by visions of a 'man with grey skin'.
Dagan Gerrity who is only 5 years old, is troubled by visions of a ‘man with grey skin’.

It would seem this young boy is living in what some would call a real living nightmare. That is… if you believe him.

The Daily Mail Online writes:

A father has told how his five-year-old son claims he has been troubled by visions of a ghostly man with grey skin who speaks to him in the night.

Dave Gerrity, 41, said his son Dagan first complained about seeing something in his bedroom in the family’s Bridlington home around six months ago.

Mr Gerrity said: ‘Dagan is scared about it. He cries about it. He’s told us that at night he can’t sleep because a man with grey skin comes and sits on his bed and keeps him awake talking to him.

‘The first time it happened, Dagan’s mum Emma and I heard him crying on the baby monitor. I went up to him and he was just crying his eyes out.

‘At first I thought it was just his imagination, or he had had a bad dream.

‘Of course you never expect this kind of thing to be true, I’ve never believed in this kind of thing before. But there’s no denying it now. ‘There have been times when we’ve been in the room with him and we see him looking up into the corner of the room and speaking.’

Mr Gerrity also told how the ‘ghost’ was seen shuffling furniture in his son’s bedroom.

He added: ‘We have a double bed in the room which is balanced on its side, and there’s a blue plastic table on top of it. ‘Dagan told me that in the night, the table was picked up and moved by itself. ‘This table is much too high for him to reach himself. I’ve put him to bed when the table has been on top of the bed, then come back in the morning to find it moved.

Mr Gerrity told how guests to his home say they have also spotted the face of a man on the walls on the dining room of their three-storey house after it was re-plastered.

‘The wall was completely stripped back before it was plastered and there was nothing on it, no pattern. ‘But when the plaster was drying, we could see a face start to appear. Now there is a 6ft by 6ft face of a man on the wall. ‘People come round to our house and see it straight away – you can’t miss it. It spooks everybody out. ‘I’ve been plastering for 24 years and never seen anything like this before.”

CONSTRUCTION CREW FRIGHTENED BY APPARITION OF HEADLESS MONK

WaterSlide6

Most construction sites don’t end up on top of a ancient burial ground, but this one did.

While building a new water side addition to the Thorpe Park in Chertsey, Surrey, England, construction crews were haunted by a rather frightening apparition of a headless monk. When inspectors came to see what all the fuss was about, they realized the new water slide was possibly being built on an old burial ground. After some consideration and discussing whether or not a headless monk ghost was something they wanted as part of their theme park, they decided against scaring the heck out of people and rather, letting them slide to the pool in peace.

Daily Mail Online writes:

A headless monk, a sudden chill, objects moving of own accord.

A new ride at an amusement park? No, the strange, seemingly paranormal, behaviour was experienced by workmen building a water ride at Thorpe Park, one of the country’s biggest theme parks.

There were reports of workers feeling like someone was watching over their shoulder and sudden cold feelings being experienced.

As a result of the ghostly sightings, and fears that an ancient burial ground has been disturbed, the project was moved to another site.

A paranormal detection agency was then called in to the park in Chertsey, Surrey, to carry out tests and found that a burial ground or settlement could have been disturbed.

Managers at the park decided to relocate the ride to another area of the park and also called in a forensic team to carry out further investigations.

The 64ft-tall water ride, Storm Surge, was originally planned for an area known as Monk’s Walk, an old footpath that has linked the ruins of nearby Chertsey Abbey to Thorpe Church since AD666.

The ride’s foundations would have been over an area of the park where stone coffins have previously been excavated.

Mike Vallis, divisional director of Thorpe Park, said: ‘It became apparent that something strange was going on when teams started clearing Storm Surge’s initial site.

‘Staff reports of eerie goings-on shot up and the only physical change in the park, at that time, was the beginning of ground preparation work for the new ride.

‘As employees were getting freaked out, we decided to call on an expert to see whether there was anything to report but had no idea of the dramatic effects.’

Jim Arnold, of South West London Paranormal, said: ‘We carry out these kinds of investigations quite regularly, with medium to weak results being reported on a weekly basis.

‘Thorpe Park, however, was more striking as results were picked up immediately, with orbs, ghostly images in photography and ouija reaction results being strongest around the site where they were proposing to build Storm Surge.

‘The results were so strong, we felt the only explanation could be that an ancient burial ground or settlement was being disturbed, prompting the extra paranormal activity.’

AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER RELEASES ‘END OF THE WORLD’ MESSAGE TO PUBLIC

047079-121211-f-julia-gillard

Julia Gillard has released a PSA to the people of Earth. Not your average PSA mind you, but one addressing the end of the world!

Watch the video below and read what The Herald Sun of Australia had to say:

The Herald Sun of Australia writes:

THE Prime Minister has delivered a chilling message confirming what many people around the world feared: the Mayans were right.

Julia Gillard’s 50-second message addresses her “dear remaining fellow Australians”. She steps in ahead of CSIRO scientists to foreshadow the world’s impending doom.

Ms Gillard lists the likely doomsday bringers to be flesh-eating zombies, demonic hell-beasts…. or K-Pop. But not the carbon price.

According to the Mayan calendar, the world will meet its fiery end on December 21, 2012. Which means that, according to Doomsdayers, we’ve got a cool 15 days left to check everything off our bucket lists.

NASA has even taken the unusual step of publishing a fact sheet calledBeyond 2012: Why The World Won’t End.

OK, so it’s just a commercial for a Triple J breakfast show but, more importantly, SAVE YOURSELVES.

With clinical, emotionless delivery, Ms Gillard warns us all, says she will always fight for us and closes by saying: “good luck to you all”. Oh and “at least this means I won’t have to do Q & A again”.

When contacted, the Prime Minister’s office said: “What Australian doesn’t mind a laugh from time to time? Anyway, the world’s going to end tomorrow so shouldn’t you be writing about that?”

It’s Dr Karl Kruszelnicki’s fault the PM is spooked – he came up with the theory the world will end tomorrow, two weeks earlier than the far-more-popular prediction of December 21.

Dr Karl, the prolific science writer and author of 50 Shades of Grey Matter, said he came up with the date after developing a complex algorithm using the Mayan calendar, the Gregorian calendar, mathematics, and comedy.

Unfortunately the algorithm was far too complex for most of us to understand, but suffice to say the logic behind it is as rock solid as the logic behind the idea that because a Mayan calendar runs out on December 21 the Earth will come to some sort of devastating end.

“I was using science for the purposes of science and comedy,” Dr Karl said.

“On the 21st of December, inconveniently only two shopping days before Christmas the Mayan calendar will click over.

“But to say the world will end is like saying today’s date is the 29th and therefore your cut lunch will turn into a shoe. That’s how rational and logical it is.”

“So I tried to turn December 21 back into December 7.”

WORLDS SCARIEST PRANK USES A ‘GHOSTLY’ LITTLE GIRL!

This would scare EVERYTHING out of me!

I love a good prank just as much as the next guy but, I really hate when a good prank is pulled on me… as I’m sure we all do.

Unfortunately for these folks in Brazil, who think they’re headed to whatever appointment it was they made for the day and are just getting onto just any old elevator. Boy, were they wrong!

Watch the video below and see what one of our favorite sights has to say:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7N5OhNplEd4

Ghost Theory reports:

Talk about a prank! This is likely one of the most extreme gags of all time.

This stunt was done for a Brazilian variety show, Programa Silvio Santos. The shtick involves unwitting elevator passengers who are riding along when the lights start to flicker. What happens next is something that these people will never forget and may have nightmares about for a long time.

pparently the shenanigans are based on the horror film ‘The Ring’. The little girl is enough to send someone over the edge and many are up in arms as this over the top escapade may be just a little too over the top. Complaints are coming in as some were concerned that exposing the right person could trigger a heart attack. I don’t know about that, but the people exposed to the prank were certainly terrified out of their minds.

I have to say, it is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen as I could feel the fear enveloping the unsuspecting passengers.

INDONESIAN VILLAGERS ATTACKED BY MYSTERIOUS CREATURE

A mysterious creature has been stalking villagers near a small Indonesian village called Kampung Paon Gahat. After a couple of attacks on locals and a foreigner, the creature came upon a farmer with a sickle in hand and decided to attack. The farmer prevailed and even took some pictures! Check them out in the story below and tell us what you think in the comments.

The Borneo Post Online writes:

SERIAN: An Indonesian plantation worker and a 75-year-old farmer got the shock of their lives when they were attacked by an unknown animal species in two separate occasions earlier this month.

The farmer, Aris Kuna of Kampung Paon Gahat, was attacked by the rare animal while attending to his pepper garden about noon. The foreigner, however, was attacked a week later at a plantation near Kpg Baing while gathering oil palm fresh fruit bunches around 9am.

The animal that attacked the duo was described as having a ‘bear and wild boar’ resemblance. Fellow workers and villagers who saw the carcass, brought by the Indonesian, could not identify the animal species.

“It’s a rare species. None of the villagers could identify it when we saw the body and pictures of it. Some even took to the Internet to find out but to no avail. Could it be one of those already considered extinct?

“In all my life venturing into the jungle, hunting and such, I’ve never come across this species,” 62-year-old Louis Nyaoi said when met at his house in Kpg Mentung Marau, some 50km from here yesterday.

His son Jimmy Tubo, 27, believed that the rare animal could have reappeared due to the opening of the nearby jungle for agriculture and other developments.

When relating the ordeal of the foreign worker, Jimmy said the Indonesian had claimed that the animal gave a strange noise, firstly sounding like a hen followed by a wild boar sound, before proceeding to attack.

The victim alleged that the animal stood up on its hind legs when charging at him. He immediately swung his sickle, killing the animal instantly.

Jimmy, who works with the Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Salcra) added that the animal which attacked the Indonesian measured two feet long.

The animal also spotted a long mane and sharp wolverine-like claws. Another mysterious attribute to the animal was that it gave out foul smell only hours after it was killed.

Another local expert jungle trekker and hunter Paul Hnrnp, 41, said he never smelled anything like the stench. He also said that one could smell the stench from some 10 metres away when the Indonesian brought the carcass to the plantation’s FFB pick up ram for observation by fellow workers and villagers.

On Aris’ encounter, Paul, a security guard at SK St John, Kpg Mentung Murau said his grandparents were resting at a hut after tending to their pepper crops at the time.

“My grandfather (Aris) heard an unfamiliar animal outside the hut, so he went out to check. At first, he could not see where the animal was coming from although he anticipated that danger was lurking.

“Sensing that the animal was near, he said a prayer before starting to swing his machete numerous times to fend off as what he described as an ‘invisible’ attack. Only after he felt he had slashed something that he saw a limb of the animal’s leg on the ground. Moments later, he saw the lifeless animal.”

Aris immediately dispersed the body at the jungle. As for the one that attacked the Indonesian worker, the body was partly buried at the plantation.

Not ruling out the fact that the animal could have been an endangered species, Louis believed the actions of both men as self-defense.

NEW BOOK DELVES INTO THE SCIENCE OF MONSTERS

The Monsters of Universal Studios

We all know, love, and have our favorite of the classic monsters from our childhood but, what was the original inspiration for these creepy creatures of the shadows? A new book being published called “Medusa’s Gaze and Vampire’s Bite: The Science of Monsters” delves into what fears and real dangers the people of the time were living with that would have created them. From disease to war, times have most certainly been tough in the past and everyone had plenty to worry about.

Reuters reports:

Nov 8 (Reuters) – The suave and sensitive Edward Cullen of “Twilight” may be the norm for vampires these days, but fictional monsters such as Dracula originally sprang from the fear of inexplicable diseases and the mysteries of death in the natural world.

So argues science journalist Matt Kaplan in “Medusa’s Gaze and Vampire’s Bite: The Science of Monsters,” an examination of monsters around the world and throughout history – the science behind their origins, and why they matter to us even now.

“When our kids ask for monster stories around the campfire, they are behaving in a way that is not dissimilar to lion cubs,” Kaplan said in an email.

“Lion cubs play fight so they can test out their skills in a safe place where nobody is going to get maimed or killed. Monster stories serve a similar purpose, they allow us to face our worst fears without the risks that are normally associated with them.”

Some are simple. The Kraken tales of mammoth monster squid, along with the Leviathan of the Bible, are most likely based upon the existence of real creatures such as whales.

The terrifying Medusa of Greek myths, with her hair made of snakes and a gaze that could turn things to stone, may have been distantly connected to the idea of fossils for ancient people, with the snakes in her hair an example of pure fear.

Though mentions of vampire-like creatures exist as early as ancient Greece, it took hundreds of years for tales of the creatures to gradually evolve into the haunting undead of more recent history.

Accounts of people found in their graves with blood on their lips and their stomachs seemingly full, as if they had just eaten, may be explained by simple decay, with gas buildup throughout the body sometimes pushing blood up from the lungs. Elongated canine teeth and fingernails was due to skin shrinking after death and pulling away, making both more prominent.

Later, greater awareness of contagious diseases such as influenza and tuberculosis – which could cause people who came in contact with the ill person to also sicken and die – further contributed to the myth. This was especially true due to incubation periods that weren’t understood at the time, making it unclear how the diseases were being spread.

“One death would follow another in a dominolike progression,” writes Kaplan. “In a morbid sense, these patients were literally killing their friends and relatives, but from their deathbeds rather than the hereafter.”

But vampires have now undergone a radical transformation, a process that began with the publication of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” but has speeded up in recent years.

“If tuberculosis, influenza, rabies and bloated bodies are the human experiences from which Dracula came, how have we now ended up with the kind, honorable and handsome Edward Cullen?” Kaplan said.

VAMPIRE BURIAL UNCOVERED IN BRITAIN

Hard to rise from the dead when there's a few stakes in your heart!

A new report details a finding from the 1950s that send chills down my spine.

A skeleton was discovered in Southwell, Notts in the UK with a number of stakes through various parts of it’s body. Apparently, administered post-mordem, they were to keep this criminal/deviant from rising from the grave as an undead to feast on the life force of the living!

The Telegraph writes:

The discovery of a skeleton found with metal spikes through its shoulders, heart and ankles, dating from 550-700AD and buried in the ancient minster town of Southwell, Notts, is detailed in a new report.

It is believed to be a ‘deviant burial’, where people considered the ‘dangerous dead’, such as vampires, were interred to prevent them rising from their graves to plague the living.

In reality, victims of this treatment were social outcasts who scared others because of their unusual behaviour. Only a handful of such burials have been unearthed in the UK.

The discovery is detailed in a new report by Matthew Beresford, of Southwell Archaeology.

The skeleton was found by archaeologist Charles Daniels during the original investigation of the site in Church Street in the town 1959, which revealed Roman remains.

Mr Beresford said when Mr Daniels found the skeleton one of the first things he did was to check for fangs in a light-hearted way.

“In the 1950s the Hammer Horror films were popular and so people had seen Christopher Lee’s Dracula so it would have been quite relevant,” said Mr Beresford.

In his report, Mr Beresford says: “The classic portrayal of the dangerous dead (more commonly known today as a vampire) is an undead corpse arising from the grave and all the accounts from this period reflect this.

“Throughout the Anglo-Saxon period the punishment of being buried in water-logged ground, face down, decapitated, staked or otherwise was reserved for thieves, murderers or traitors or later for those deviants who did not conform to societies rules: adulterers, disrupters of the peace, the unpious or oath breaker.

“Which of these the Southwell deviant was we will never know.”

HAS THE MOTHMAN RETURNED TO GEORGIA?

Georgia has it's own tribute to the legend of the Mothman.

Has the Mothman of legend returned to Georgia? Read the story and subsequent email message to Phantoms & Monsters below and see what possible explanations you can come up with in the comments below.

Ghost Theory writes:

It’s been many years since the Silver bridge collapsed, claiming 46 lives during a busy Friday evening rush hour. It is said that an omen to the incident appeared in the form of an odd looking creature later named Mothman by an Ohio copy editor who had a fascination with the old Batman TV series with a similar looking villain.

As time passed I developed a fascination with the monster of Point Pleasant. I spent more time than you can imagine researching the subject over the years, but the stories and sightings were few and far between. In fact, incidents involving the winged creature with no head have become downright rare.

I often wondered why a fairly famous entity would be so lacking in coverage? Similar beasts such as Bigfoot are still going strong. Even Chupacabra gets more play than the Mothman and in my mind, that defies logic. You’d think there would at least be a steady stream of hoaxes for such an eerie specter who’s appearance is said to be a warning of coming disaster.

As I pondered this lack of coverage, it occurred to me, if something had a chance of being real, would sightings and associated stories lack attention, or is there just not enough interest? Even a feature motion picture wasn’t enough to push this cryptid into the forefront for very long.

I for one get very excited when I see a story involving a creature that can be mistaken for nothing but Mothman. I’ve seen incidents describing large winged entities and I’ve even posted on them here, but it wasn’t until today that I knew I had a bona-fide Mothman encounter….that is, if we are to believe the incident.

This story comes to us from Lon over at Phantoms & Monsters where a skittish woman who goes only by the initials EW, tells of a terrifying run in with what in my mind can only be Mothman:

The North Georgia Mothman Encounter (as told to Lon Strickler)

Last December I received an email from a woman (who I will refer to as ‘EW’) from north Georgia who thought she had encountered a Mothman. After many months of correspondence, the witness has agreed to allow me to post the event but only under strict circumstances. She has reviewed this post and has agreed to the following content being published:

“Hello – I am hoping you can shed some light on an incident I had a few years ago. I was twenty-five at the time and was driving to my friend CW’s house. It was quiet at 11:30 pm as I drove south on an old country road off of (redacted) highway near (redacted) in north Georgia. Very few people pass this way because it leads to nothing but a small group of houses. I turned on the radio but nothing came on. I figured it was a blown fuse but then I started to heard weird scratching sounds coming through the speakers. It sounded like a distant voice but I couldn’t understand what it was saying.

Suddenly, something flew in front of the car and hit the windshield with enough size and force that it totally mangled the grill and hood. I immediately stopped the car. I heard what sounded like wings flapping on the roof, but then something rolled down the back window onto the trunk then eventually on to the road. I thought I killed whatever it was. A woman in a truck had pulled up from behind and said she saw the thing hit the road. She said that it’s eyes were glaring bright red. As we looked more closely at this thing it resembled a man with large bat-like wings. The woman walked back to her truck and pulled a shotgun from the back and pointed it at this bat-like creature.

It was starting to move and we backed off. It slowly stood up on two large raptor-like claws, turned and stared directly at us with those terrible bright red eyes. The woman pumped the shotgun. It slowly levitated off the ground with wings spread until it was about 10 foot up then instantly, it let out a deafening screech as it just disappeared with a loud ‘swoosh’. The woman (who I found out later was CW’s aunt) and I just looked at each other.

This thing had the body of a well-built man. It had no feathers but charcoal gray skin like that of a bat with some hair on the shoulders and around the eyes and legs. When it spread it’s wings, it had the span of 12 foot or more. I estimate it was about 8 foot tall. It had no head however, just the eyes embedded on the shoulders that had brows. I didn’t noticed a mouth or nose. There is no way I was going to report this and CW’s aunt totally agreed. We both drove off to CW’s house. I was so shook up I stayed the night.

The next morning, I went outside to inspect the car. There was a huge crack in the windshield and the grill was mangled beyond repair. The hood also had a deep 25 inch dent. I started to walk back to the house when I noticed something laying in the grass beside the garage. It was CW’s Golden Retriever lying dead from massive lacerations up and down it’s back. I just knew that thing did it.

That was 3 years ago and I constantly dream of this creature. I was told by a friend that I had encountered a Mothman. It looked more like a Batman to be honest. I decided to look up a few of the sightings by others and saw your name and blog. Many of the images on Google were very similar to what I saw. I wrote to someone else about a year ago but they never got back to me. I have included 2 of the images I think look the most like the creature I hit with my car that night. Could you contact me at this email? Thank you for your time. EW”

For more on this subject, including Lon’s comments, head over to Phantoms & Monsters

Is this story authentic? It’s seems to hold many similarities to other winged creature encounters, such as the body slamming into the windshield and rolling off the back. Also, I was almost wondering why the other woman didn’t shoot the thing. At one point it lets out a hair raising screech and I fully expected the next sentence to describe the deafening sound of the shotgun muzzle! Yet, both women stand and watch as it floats up into the air.

Another problem that challenges the authenticity is at no time does either women scream, run or lock themselves in their vehicles. In fact, their reaction seems lacking in emotion or animation. However, those who know the Mothman story well will tell you that there are associated reports of emotional and mental manipulation. Could these ladies have been in some sort of semi-trance state?

I could just dismiss this as a hoax, but that wouldn’t be much fun, especially for someone as addicted to the Mothman saga as I am.

I’d like to give a big shout out to Lon as I enjoyed this one thoroughly.
